WAFLW Round 4 v Claremont Match Preview
This Saturday will see Subiaco face second placed Claremont in a bid to counteract last week’s disappointing performance against East Fremantle. A loss this week could possibly see the Lions drop to bottom of the ladder, which isn’t the start the 2020 Grand finalist wanted.
The round four encounter against the Tigers will be a home game for Subiaco at Leederville Oval on Saturday 13th with bouncedown at 6pm.
FORM
Subiaco started the season on a good note in round one with a close win against South Freo, but since have faced a two game losing streak of consecutive 44 point losses, finishing the round 3 clash against East Fremantle with just one minor score. With only one scoring shot last week, Subiaco will hope to stop this poor run of form and come out firing looking to capitalise on as many scoring opportunities as possible.
OPPONENTS FORM
Claremont are coming off a two game winning streak sitting second on the ladder after losing by a goal to Swan Districts in round one, followed by beating East Fremantle in a close game in round 2 and a convincing 51 point win over South Fremantle at Revo Fitness Stadium last weekend.
They will look to keep this good run going as they come up against a raring-to-go Subiaco outfit.
LAST TIME THEY MET
Flashback to July 2020 was the last time these two sides came up against each other in a tight two-point victory to Subiaco 4.6 (30) to Claremont’s 4.4 (28). Subiaco started strong making the most of their opportunities recording 2.2 of their four scoring shots to Claremont’s equivalent opportunities ending up in only four minors at the end of the first quarter.
Claremont hit the front going into half time (3.4) , holding Subiaco scoreless in the second quarter (2.2). With both teams scoring one major each in the third term, it came down to the last quarter where two points on Subiaco’s behalf sealed the game. Both teams remained at four-goals apiece when the final siren sounded; leaving this week’s fixture one to look forward in hopefully another tense contest.
GOAL KICKERS
Subiaco finished with three goal kickers: Philippa Pienaar finishing with two and Lara Filocamo and Abbey Dowrick both finishing with one major each.
IN ONE SENTENCE
Both teams keen for a win, with Subiaco looking to end their form slump and Claremont looking to challenge top spot on the ladder
