The Ladies Forum amalgamates with The Golds
The Subiaco Ladies Forum was established in 1983 for female members to socialise and enjoy what the club had to offer together. Initial membership was over 40 members and meetings were held monthly at the club rooms in Subiaco. When Subiaco moved to Leederville in 2004, meetings continued to be held monthly. Home game highlights were afternoon teas, which later transformed into wine and cheese for a small donation. Annual highlights were bus trips together, fashion parades, craft activities, fundraising cake stalls, fundraising sausage sizzles and various guest speakers. In 2010 the Ladies Forum moved their meetings to the first Tuesday of the month to share guest speakers and the cost of catering with the Gold’s. In 2019, due to reduced numbers, the Ladies Forum began a trial amalgamation with the Gold’s. This year, the Ladies Forum have voted unanimously to fully amalgamate with the Gold’s and become a sub-committee under the Gold’s.
It is with great sorrow we, the Ladies Forum, have chosen to no longer function as a separate coterie group of Subiaco Football Club. Whilst we are excited about the future and all we can continue to contribute to the club under the Gold’s, there is sadness at losing something we were all so proud of. With only 8 members left, the burden of fundraising and supporting the Colt’s in ways we have always supported them became too much. As a sub-committee of the Gold’s, we will be able to continue to provide support to the Colts football players to achieve their football aspirations by fundraising for the player’s Scholarship and Welfare Fund, promoting friendship and involvement among the ladies at the Subiaco Football Club, providing Colts player awards and financial recognition of league milestone players. Dee Kitson was nominated to join the Gold’s Committee as a representative of the Ladies Forum. Following a vote, the sub-committee will be known as Gold’s Ladies.
The longest serving Ladies Forum President was Laura Stafford, whom was in office for over 20 years. The Ladies Forum had 7 Life Members recognised: Laura Stafford, Val Taylor, Diane Bastion, Jacqui Warden, Meg Becker, Gwen Loxley, Robin Ewers and Elaine Murray. Meg Becker and Robin Ewers remained members of the Ladies Forum until it’s closure in 2021.
Thank you to all those ladies who are past and/or present members. Your heart bleeds maroon and gold for the Subiaco Football Club and every little thing you have contributed (your time, baked goods, homemade sandwiches, cooking sausages and onions, handing out awards, your smiles and friendliness towards all the ladies around the club) has made a big difference to the feel of the club. We are sad at our loss, but we have a bright future ahead.
If any members are interested in joining the Gold’s, please contact Ross Lockhart for more information.
