Subiaco Colts announce 2021 leadership team
The 2021 Subiaco Football Club leadership team for the Colts squad has been announced prior to the round one clash against East Perth at Leederville Oval next week.
Captain: Campbell Henderson
Leadership Group: Neil Erasmus, Jared Thompson and Cooper Tamlin
To appoint the Captain and leadership group, the Colts squad spent time identifying what makes a good leader and what the group thinks is good leadership, with each player then choosing three players they thought held the leadership qualities they thought would best lead the team in 2022. From their selection the leadership team was finalised. From there, the four players selected into the leadership team were asked to present to the coaching group on why they thought they were the best person to be named captain.
Campbell stood out in this process and ultimately was offered the captains role for 2021
Chayce Creedy spoke highly of Campbell and his appointment as captain for the 2021 season, "Campbell has been in our development programs for a number of years and has shown a great ability to learn and develop himself whilst engaging with those around him and helping them as well. He is well respected, humble and has a really clear vision on what he wants to be as a leader, from football to social he ticked a lot of boxes" said Creedy.
Campbell Henderson last year become a Colts Premiership player with the Subiaco Football Club; "as an underage player last year he formed part of a really strong defensive unit and was a natural leader even in his first full year" said Creedy.
"It's testament to Campbell and the esteem with which he has held that he was able to be recognised within the group as a good leader. This due to the fact that he has spent 60% of the off season in rehab and not with the main group due to finger surgery required post the grand final. The fact he was still able to connect with the group while not directly on the track with them shows how good of a leader he is" said Creedy.
Talking about the 2021 Colts four-person leadership team "we shied away from vice-captains and instead put three strong young leaders alongside Campbell as a leadership group" said Chayce Creedy.
"They all bring strong character and complement each other which is what we were after, this is as much about helping them develop leadership capability as well as them developing the culture of the group."
"Neil is a PSA player so we hope this gives him great ownership with the group when he is with Subi, we are working hard on his team game at Subi and he has put in a large amount of work with us and hope that flows into his footy at Hale of being team focussed."
"Jared is a player who has been in our system along time and now gets his opportunity, he works hard and is well liked and we want that to rub off on others. He is always smiling and engaged."
"Cooper is an outstanding young man who moved up from Esperance and immediately brought a buzz to the group with his work ethic and engaging personality, he drives a high standard and is an elite communicator on and off field. We wish them all well and look forward to supporting their leadership journey."
