This Good Friday, Subiaco’s 2021 Optus WAFL Premiership season will begin with a home game, as the Lions face East Perth at Leederville Oval with bouncedown at 4:10pm in the City of Vincent Match
Given the interruptions of COVID-19 on the season last year, the Lions, along with the rest of the competition and spectators also, look forward to, fingers crossed, an uninterrupted full 20-round season.
Keep an eye on Subiaco’s social media platforms for updates across the day if you cannot make it to the game.
FORM
Coming off a rather substandard year in 2020 finishing sixth on the ladder given their success in 2019, the Lions will look to get back to their best in 2021. The Lions started off 2021 well recording a 23 point win in the first pre-season game against East Fremantle, following it up with a 22 point loss against South Fremantle in round 2 and then in a close game, falling short by just 6 points to West Perth last Saturday.
OPPONENTS FORM
East Perth played only two pre-season games falling short on both occasions to West Perth by 17 in the first game, but with the more significant one being handed to them by Claremont in a 65 point thrashing on the weekend just gone. With much to take away from their pre-season fixtures, the Royals will certainly look to bounce back this week against the Lions.
GOAL KICKERS
Last time these two teams played was in Round 6 of the shortened 2020 Premiership season. Subiaco coming off second best in that occasion falling short by only 9 points in the end, yet Ben Sokol shone kicking three for the Lions with his 12 disposals and 7 marks. Thomas Edwards-Baldwin, who’ll be playing for the opposition this time round and Nick martin both kicked two each.
LAST TWO TIMES
In Round 6 of 2020, East Perth claimed the victory by 9 points at Leederville Oval in a game of making most of their opportunities as the scoring shots were 18 to the home team and 19 to the Royals. When they met in round 20 of 2019 , the Lions thumped East Perth at Leederville Oval on a cold one in August with the final score being 8.5 (53) to East Perth and a whopping 18.12 (120) to the Lions. Delahunty with team high 32 disposals, kicking first goal of the game and outstanding performances of Stainsby and Clark were Subi’s best for the day. Along with the dominating performances of Ben Sokol’s 6.4 and Ryan Borchet’s 5.1 also being crucial in coming home with the win.
OTHER GRADES
Subiaco Futures game will kick off the day at 9am at Leederville Oval against East Perth. Following that, the Colts team clash against East Perth will start at 11:10am and Subiaco Reserves will face East Perth at 1:40pm with both also being home games at Leederville Oval.
