WAFLW Match Preview v East Fremantle
Subiaco are up against East Freo this week at home with kick off at 1pm. These two teams are sitting with two wins from the season with only percentage separating them on the ladder, Subiaco on top in that area. This game looks to be an even and telling contest given both sides are similar in form this season.
FORM
Subi are coming off a close game last week against undefeated and top of the table, Swan Districts, when the margin was down to just 8 when the final siren sounded. The Lions showed real fight and encouraging signs in what was expected to be a clear difference between both teams especially being in Swans territory at Steele Blue Oval. This is what Subi were hoping to see as it shows good signs despite only having the two victories of the season. A close contest against the best side in the comp is the confidence boost the Lions were after to kick start the second half of the comp and aiming towards getting back on the winners list. Amy Hunt has been most imposing in front of the big sticks for the team so far with eight majors putting her to sit fourth out of the competition for leading goal scorer.
OPPONENTS FORM
East Fremantle have also only recorded the two wins of the season from eight games of footy. Most recent triumph against South Freo in round 5 by a margin of 46 and prior to that a home for the Sharks against Subiaco where they held the Lions to just a minor score to finish off the game six goals to one point. East Freo are coming off a tough game but even more so of a result as they were left second best to a commanding Claremont outfit’s ten goals to the Shark’s just two scoring shots to one goal. This will be one of many reasons the away team for this week’s fixture will want to come away with four points.
LAST TIME THEY MET
The last time these sides met was in Round 3 of this Premiership season when it was East Freo that stood tall and held the Lions to one of the more disappointing performances of just one point to finish the game. The Sharks held Subiaco to one scoring shot against their own fifteen of the same for 6.9. It will be the away team that will hold the upper hand going into Saturday’s game as they know the performance they can produce against the Lions.
GOAL KICKERS
In the round 3 match up, East Freo players Ross, Nokes, Versaci and Sanders were the goal scorers for the Sharks, meanwhile it was Beatrice Devlyn that scored Subiaco’s lone score for the day. The Lions quality forward line including Amy Hunt (8 season goals) will hope to make their presence felt in what will be a tight contest in all areas of the game.
