WAFLW Match Preview v Swan Districts

Thursday, May 20, 2021 - 9:46 AM by Alice Miller

It’s back on track for round 12 and Subiaco face, once again, their toughest challenge this week, Swan Districts.

The task hasn’t gotten any easier as Swans have continued to make a statement to the competition of being the team to beat. The game will be at 12:05 on Sunday at Leederville Oval.

FORM
Subiaco kept a good thing coming as they continued their winning streak last week against East Freo, kicking ten goals to two with a final margin of 53 points. The streak started with a 25 point win against South Freo in round 10 followed by a closer game against Claremont at Revo Fitness Stadium two weeks ago for round 11.

Over the last three games the Lions have given themselves ultimate opportunities to win games by having 10+ shots at goal per game. This is an aspect of their game they will look to maintain especially against the quality outfit of the Black and White defence.

OPPONENTS FORM
Swan Districts have come off a lacking game last week against South Freo, where the Bulldogs only tallied one minor score for the game for the Swans’ 38 point final score. Prior to that was a nail-biting intense affair against their rivals Peel Thunder when they held on for a one-point triumph. That win would be noted as one of their better wins of the season as Peel threw everything at them and took the game down to the wire.

Swans are now three games clear of the Thunder in second and are still yet to fall short to a team this year.

LAST TIME THEY MET
The last time these sides met was only a few weeks ago when Subiaco had one of their games of the season falling short by just a margin of eight against the formidable Swan Districts. It was only three shots at goal separating the two meaning the game was looking to be even closer than it was. Hoping to reciprocate but with added intensity and this current good run of form, the Lions look set to bring it to the Black and White in this week’s fixture.

GOAL KICKERS
Third on the competition’s goal kickers list, Amy Hunt kicked 3 goals against Swans alongside Filocamo, Hyder and Pocsidio who all joined her with a major each.
For the Swans it was Sarah Wielstra that featured with team high two goals to feature on the scoreboard.
