Subiaco players enjoy Community Club visits during State Game bye
With much of senior footy being credited to and a product of the grass roots footy clubs, it’s important that in any way possible to give back to where it all started for several of the now Subiaco players.
Last Thursday, the club took the bye week as the perfect opportunity to continue to have an impact out in the community without playing a game. From all grades, a total of 31 Subiaco players made their way around the community, spending the afternoon having a kick with local footy clubs throughout the Subiaco district. Five of those players went back to where it all started for them making it an even more personal experience to share with the younger footy hopefuls.
Isaac Clinic went back to his roots to the Year 5 Warwick Greenwood Junior Footy Club. Ben Reid headed back to where it all started up at Kingsway Junior Footy Club and hosted the Year 9 group alongside Galen Savigni, as well as Jack Beverley, Wil Hickmott and Liam Hickmott who made their way to catch up with their own Sorrento Duncraig Junior Footy club. The players also paid visit to Carine, Stirling, Kingsley and Balga Junior Football clubs in what was a successful and enjoyable evening.
The feedback from last week has been encouraging and of appreciation for the input the Subiaco players have in these junior’s football careers.
Here’s what a few of the clubs had to say:
David Traynor Stirling JFC: “I wanted to let you know that all the players you sent down were great with our playing groups. They encouraged, got involved in drills and therefore, the kids got a lot out of it. I asked them to do a quick Q and A with our year 7/8 girls too, which they were happy to do. Brilliant.”
Michelle Hinman WGJFC: “The Kids loved it. We had our two Subi players scrimmage with the kids at the end as well. They loved it. The question session was great as well. I had to stop the kids at the end so that everyone could leave!! Thanks again. Much appreciated.”
Subiaco’s Development Officer Brodie Riach also shared what he thought of the evening; “By the Subiaco Football Club identifying the bye week as an opportunity to engage with its junior clubs, highlights the significance in creating a strong connection between WAFL and community Football. To be able to have Jack Beverley for example, go back to Sorrento Duncraig and give back to the club that gave him his first football experience, will no doubt have a very positive impact."
