Team Announcement v Swan Districts

Friday, May 21, 2021 - 9:53 AM by Alice Miller

It’s round seven of the 2021 Optus WAFL Premiership Season and the Lions are up against Swan Districts this Saturday at Steele Blue Oval playing at 2:40pm. The fixture is predicted to be played in heavy rain, so expect it to be a grind right until the end in a grueling affair.

ONES TO WATCH

In just two league games this season so far, centre half forward Nick Martin has tallied 36 disposals, twelve marks and six goals to go with that. Prior to that, Martin was also nailing it in the Reserves team with averaging 16 touches and grabbed 5 goals from the two games. Most recently, in a quality individual performance, he racked up 20 possessions, eight marks, six inside-50s and 4 goals in round six against Claremont. In just two appearances to account for and already a good track record, Martin will not only be making a name for himself in the league team but also one for fans to watch out for this week.

Delahunty, who has been one of Subiaco’s most consistent performers over his 117 WAFL games, has hit the straps in a big way of season 2021 with a total of 113 disposals, 78 hitouts and 18 tackles for the five games so far. He’s also coming off getting the call up to represent WA in the WAFL v SANFL State game last week where he had 26 touches in a disappointing clash for the WA team. Delahunty has averaged 26.6 touches against the Black and White over the last three match ups and looks to be heading that way again for this weekend.

Coming off probably his best game of the season so far, Michael Braut will be one to keep an eye on this week. Prior to the state game bye, Subi’s match up with Claremont was not only a team impressive performance but also a showing of Braut’s prominence down back. He dominated across half back with 27 touches and twelve marks, many of which were contested.
Braut has averaged 17.8 possessions a game this year and has a total of twenty marks. Be sure to look out for him moving forward this year.
