WAFLW Match Preview v Peel Thunder
Round 13 and time for Subiaco’s third clash of the year against Peel this Saturday. The game will be played under lights for a night game and in what looks to be a wet evening.
FORM
Subi nearly held onto another win on the weekend but scoring ceased after halftime meaning their one-point deficit going into the main break had the last say when the final siren sounded. The game was tight up until half time, scores at both quarter times were only separated by a minor score. Eventually the factors of the weather and both good teams meant the scoring slowed to a halt and was an arm wrestle for the remainder of the game. Prior to that however, the Lions were enjoying a nice win streak of three games, fresh off a 53-point win over East Freo. Knowing another slog of a game is coming their way, this week will set out to be Subi’s chance to grab a win from a quality side.
OPPONENTS FORM
Peel are coming off a good win against the struggling South Freo last week, out scoring them four goals to zip for the Thunder. Round 11 provided them with their closest encounter and toughest match up yet when they clashed with Swan Districts. In a tough contest, the Swans left on top but only by the small margin of one in the end. Peel are home to the league’s top two goal scorers with Kate Bartlett in first place with a massive 31 goals in 12 games and also just as impressive, Kira Phillips 18 majors in just eight. These will surely be big talking points within Subiaco ahead of this week’s fixture.
LAST TIME THEY MET
Round 7 last month was the last time these sides met where Subi 3.4 (22) claimed a 20 point loss to the Thunder 6.6 (42) at David Grays Arena. The last quarter was where the game was won, Peel added on 3.1 and held Subiaco scoreless while doing so.
GOAL KICKERS
The load was shared between Kia Buckley (2) and Tarnee Tester with one for Subiaco. Star of the Thunder’s forward line, Kira Phillips kicked half the Thunder goals for the day, Kate Bartlett and Nel Baxter had the other three.
