Unchanged team to face Perth under lights
Subi clash with Perth tonight at Mineral Resources Park with bouncedown at 6.10pm
ONES TO WATCH
Ex-Sydney Swans listed player and a Subiaco backline mainstay, Jordan Lockyer has consistently thrown everything at it this year so far and will continue to be a vital member of the team week in, week out. Missed two games this year, so from the five games he’s played has had an average of 12 disposals, three tackles and four marks a game. His biggest performance so far was in round 7 against Swans where he had season-high 15 touches and clunked them big time down back with seven marks. Last time Jordan played the Demons he had again 15 disposals and eight marks in a big day for the Lions, expect this solid asset of Subi’s backline to have another quality showing in this week’s fixture.
Subiaco have a history of booking in brother pairs into the team and it’ll continue to be a special component to the team. This year the Lions league team have featured two pairs of brothers, including the Hickmott’s Liam and Wil as well as Bailey and Brandon Matera. In the Hickmott family, both players have come from the Sorrento Duncraig JFC and have made their way through the ranks in all grades at Subiaco and now find themselves playing together at League level. Last week the pair notched up their greatest figures of their league careers so far both having 19 touches each, Wil added to that with five marks and two goals and Liam with five tackles and kicked his second goal of his career. This dynamic duo play a big role in the team so watch out for them this Thursday night as they continue to show what the Hickmotts are made of.
After many years, the Matera brothers have now ended up playing alongside one another in the Maroon and Gold. Subiaco welcomed ex- Fremantle Docker Brandon into the squad for season 2021 and has already made a name for himself in his new team featuring in the Reserves up until last week when he had his first league hitout for the club and first game alongside his brother against his old mob in Peel (15 disposals, three tackles, one goal). Bailey on the other hand has been around the Lions since 2017, prior to that at South Freo, and has made himself at home at Subi, being reflected in his performances. Of the season 2021 we’ve had so far, Bailey averages 15 touches and four tackles a game, is yet to feature on the scoreboard but will surely start to tally up a score soon. Be sure to look out for the pressure the Matera brothers bring up forward on Thursday night as Brandon gets comfortable and Bailey continues on his way.
