FORM
Footy is a wonderful thing when it comes to wanting to move on quickly from a loss. Subi are looking to do just that and switch focus from last week's narrow loss to West Coast to the task of Swan Districts this week. Although, the game was quality viewing and was stretched until the very dying stages for a winning goal as a result of a free kick to West Coast. Prior to that however, Subi demolished the Demons in round nine, nearly holding them goalless for the game but even still claiming the four points by a winning margin of 98. The Lions have now lost just two games this year, the reigning premiers Bulldogs were too good in round five by an extra three goals and then last week Subi were outclassed by a boosted Eagles outfit with numerous AFL inclusions to help them get the win by five points.
OPPONENTS FORM
The Swans made their way into the top four after their 44-point win against East Freo in round eight and held it up until last week’s loss to West Perth which sees them drop down to fifth just below the Falcons. Swans were in the game up until half time when West Perth turned on the heat and piled on six goals for the second half. Swans are third in the comp for tackles this year with Subi sitting first and have the player with the most in Frank Anderson with 59, although Greg Clark is just one shy off this with 58 for the season. Given these stats, an expected pressure based and hard fought battle is coming our way this weekend.
GOAL KICKERS
Once again talk about spreading the load, Subi have had 20 different goal scorers for halfway through the season including Jordan Farone who’s had 14 goals in his breakout season and new look player, Michael Braut who’s found himself with nine majors as a big presence down forward. Sokol kept pursuing his campaign for the Bernie Naylor medal when he couldn’t keep quiet for the full four quarters with just another mere six goals in the second half on the weekend putting his total to 23 for the season and in equal third for the comp.
LAST TWO TIMES
Subiaco just snatched the win off the Swans last month winning 8.10 (58) to 7.8 (50) with less than a kick in it at three quarter time. Greg Clark notched up his best all round numbers this year, 30 touches, 12 tackles and even a couple goals to top it all off. Last year was different when Subi had the game from the get go scoring shots 11 to 24 in favour of the Lions and it was the big man in the middle who was the highest disposal getter for the occasion, Delahunty 24 touches and six tackles.
OTHER GRADES
Subi’s Colts and Ressies teams had the week off last week, bar a few scratch matches. Colts game against the Swan starts at 9:10 Saturday Morning and Reserves to follow suit at 11:40am before League. In the biggest game for Subiaco as a club this weekend is the Womens team playing their Preliminary final hosted by the Swans on Sunday at 2:30pm, so be sure to make your way up to Steele Blue Oval to cheer on the team with the big dance in sight.
