Match Preview v West Coast presented by CSG Marketing (https://csg.marketing/)

With seven games left in the regular season it’s round 15 and Subi are set to face the familiar opponent in West Coast this Saturday in hopes of redemption from a narrow loss weeks ago.

The last time these sides met, Subi were on the receiving end of one of the upsets of the season when West Coast bagged their first four points of the season. The game will kick off at 2:10pm Saturday afternoon in what looks to be more of the wet and overcast conditions.

Keep an eye on Subiaco’s social media channels and app for updates across the day if you cannot make it to the game.

FORM
Subi are now back on track with a win last week putting an end to their two-game losing streak weeks prior. Both losses were by less than a goal and up against the better team on the day, despite coming so close on both occasions. Just last Saturday did Subi reinstate where they are in the whereabouts of the season by pushing past Perth in a competitive match up and getting rid of any demons brought about from the defeats in the last three weeks. In a larger sense, Subi dodged the bullet of having their first three-game losing streak in more than 8 years over the weekend, able to avoid that reoccurrence. Subiaco are well and truly leading in Percentage in the competition (140.60%), 18% more than the Tigers in second, with a few larger margins they’ve been the beneficiary of earlier on in the season and Claremont losing their game last week also worked in their favour. Subi are on three losses and eight wins hopefully tallying their ninth this weekend.

OPPONENTS FORM
The Eagles have now recorded two wins this season, but have just come off a loss to the one team they are yet to beat in their history, Swan Districts. Only a margin of 2 points was how close they got to breaking history, but Swans hold them off in the end. Zane Trew has been the tackle machine for West Coast this season with 51 over his ten games. This will make up for once again another excellent match up with Subi’s own pressure built, gun midfielder, Greg Clark who is currently ruling the comp for most tackles on 73, so keep an eye on that battle this Saturday. After a very close, winnable game last week, West Coast will know since the last time they played the Lions, they’ve got it in them to produce that performance again.

GOAL KICKERS
Sokol now sits just two goals off being equal second on the overall goal scoring in the competition (26). 2020 club leading goal kicker, Nick Martin has featured on the scoreboard for the last three straight games, currently sitting on 13.9 for 2021 season, while fellow forward Michael Braut has kick nine goals consecutively over his last six games and sits close behind on 12 majors for the season. Last time it was Lions v Eagles Sokol put in his best efforts to get the boys over the line booting six straight no problem at all in one of his best performances this year.

LAST TWO TIMES
Fresh in the players minds just three weeks ago, West Coast were up and about and filled with confidence having handy AFL-listed inclusions up their sleeve as they came away with a four point victory in a shock to the competition. Although, the Eagles’ mainstay players also stood up to win when all odds were against them. A Subiaco 68-point thrashing back in 2019 is more Subi’s style and will hope to channel some of that this week two make it back to back wins and plant themselves in top spot.

OTHER GRADES
Both Lions’ Reserves and Colts teams will be playing a scratch match between themselves, with bouncedown at 9.50am.
