U15's Development Carnival Report
This week started kicked off with great football from our future stars of Subi competing in the 15’s Development Carnival. Over Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday our two metro 15’s teams and Goldfield’s year 10 side played two games against Perth and East Fremantle and their equivalent regional teams. There was some excellent football played in each game with Subiaco’s only loss to East Fremantle in a nail biter ultimate game where our metro A’s went down by one point
Day 1
Subiaco v Perth and Goldfields v Midlands
The first day of the competition was a blustery day out at Lathlain, with damaging storms forecast Subiaco and the Goldfield’s sides had a challenge on their hands
Game 1
Goldfields Def Midlands 74 to 48
Starting with a challenging half of football, the Goldfields not using the wind to their advantage and scores sitting almost level at half time. But with the likes of KoopaWalsh kicking 6 at full forward, Judd Kelman cleaning up at the halfback line and Malaki Champion up to his usual tricks kicking 5 from the centre, the Goldfields side were able to run away in the second half with a convincing win.
Game 2
Subiaco Def Perth Metro B’s 13.9 87 to 5.12 42
Subiaco B’s were off to a poor start with Perth only keeping them in the game with inaccuracy in front of goal. Head Coach, Stu Page half time address aligned the boys with what Subiaco football is about and the side came out firing in the second half with strong attack and physical pressure. Jake Durham looked strong out of position in the ruck, feeding Thomas Dobson in the mid getting plenty of the ball and Gian Laurendi unstoppable up forward marking everything and kicking 4 goals to pull Subi over the line winners.
Game 3
Subiaco Def Perth Metro A’s 14.14 98 to 4.1 25
The Subi A’s team to strong across the board for Perth’s talented 15’s side. Subi pulled away with some dominate performances from the likes of Caylon Seelander cleaning up on the half back, Sonny Siano with his strong forward pressure and Mitch Bell clean possession out of the centre and a 70m Torpedo goal to top off a BOG performance.
Day 2
Regional round Robbin day out at Legacy Oval, Cockburn with the Goldfields up against Mid-West and Great Southern in 2 half games.
The Goldfields were dominate in the performance against both teams coming out victors in each game in gusty conditions against some very skilful opposition. Cuba Garlett was dominate out on the wing, applying great pressure to the opposition causing turnovers, Judd McKay was a strong presence in the forward line having plenty of opportunity in front of goal and the best performer of day 2, Regan Mott with a standard dominate show in the midfield, leading the Goldfields to their undefeated campaign in the year 10 regional carnival.
Day 3
Wet and muddy conditions at Shark Park held the last of the metro 15s games Subi v East Freo.
Game 1
Metro B’s Subiaco Def East Fremantle 69 to 39
In conditions that would test the most seasoned AFL player, the Subi B’s fought gallantly all day to notch a W against and unrelenting East Freo side. Under-ager Hyden Burt looked as if he were playing footy on a fine sunny day lacing out Kaleb White who finished with a bag of goals and pressure and hard run from Brady Lamont allowed the metro B’s to an 2nd win
Game 2
Metro A’s Subiaco Def by East Fremantle 27 to 28
A very skilful East Fremantle Dev side showed up Subi by pulling off a 1-point victory in an edge-of-your-seat game. Even with a dominate effort from Hyden Windsor whose athleticism out of the ruck drove most of Subiaco’s play was not enough to get them over the line. Tom MacGillivary’s effort in the midfield was second to none and the golden fist of Yeabsera Fasil to keep his opponent very quiet must be commended.
Talent manager, Stuart Berryman summed up the carnival, “It was great to see the effort put in by all our development players over the course of our training block in action during the carnival games. Our goal of the 15’s development is to give the boys an introduction to WAFL level football and start to develop some higher skills and game strategies, all boys achieved this during the program, I believe Subiaco FC has a strong future with this group.
“A big thanks has to go to a large number of people, who without them, this program wouldn’t be possible. All community and regional clubs, the development coaches, staff and volunteers, parents of players and organises of the carnival, thank you for your help and support.”
