Subi made a big statement over the weekend winning comfortably over the reigning champs taking back the position of ladder leader as well as making it two from three across all three grades.
LEAGUE
After briefly losing top spot for a day when Claremont won their game on Saturday, Subi’s Sunday game was their chance to reclaim top of the table and they did just that in convincing fashion in a solid 44-point victory 10.13 (73) to 4.5 (29) against the Bulldogs.
Nothing separated the teams at the start of the game both equalling each other’s pressure in a heated first term with scores all square and seemed to be the game of footy spectators were expecting.
Subiaco were able to draw out a 10-point lead in the second quarter after improved ball movement which resulted in repeat inside 50s and meant they started to get the game on their terms. Despite a bunch of opportunities in front of goal, the scoreline didn’t look pretty when Subi kicked 2.5 for the 25 minutes but still managed to hold a lead to the lesser effort of South Freo.
The ball didn’t seem to leave Subi’s front half after the main break and to make the task even more difficult for the Bulldogs the wind was heavily down Subi’s end proving beneficial for the home team having eight scoring shots to only two to South Freo.
Subiaco flexed their muscles in the final term not only having their best quarter performance for the game kicking 4.1 but all while keeping the Bulldogs goalless. The Lions proved to good in the end by 44 points and showed to the competition just the quality team they are.
Subi’s usual suspects, Kitchin, Clark and Marsh were the stars of the show once again having 33, 32 and 28 touches respectively as well as 16 tackles, 20 inside-50s and two goals between the three of them. Angus Dewar also had a nice feature in the limelight to add to the season he’s having with 22 disposals and seven marks for the day and Lewis Putt came back into the team this week helping himself to 15 touches, three tackles and 26 hitouts. The familiar faces in front of goal also produced what was expected of them, Sokol had 2.3, Braut with 3, Kitchin, Marsh and Bailey Matera all had one too.
Subi will host West Perth next week for round 17 as they head towards the pointing end of the regular season. Game will be on Saturday at 2:10pm.

COLTS
Subiaco’s Colts team were on the receiving end of a nail biting loss over the weekend when they fell short to Souths by just a point despite their efforts of getting themselves back into the contest after a slow start.
A slow start indeed, like a shock to the system Subi were on the back foot after a five goal first quarter from the visitors but redeemed themselves in the second when Bulldogs only managed to add on one minor score when Subi flicked the switched to kick 3.3 making it a five point ball game going into half time.
After such a good comeback in the second Subi didn’t want to let the game slip away at any time so kept up the momentum and equalised everything that was being thrown at them from the Bulldogs. Subi finished the third quarter being within reaching distance of grabbing the lead, trailing by only a point. Same could be said for the final term as both teams gave it everything in the final 25 minutes and brought it down to the wire when in the end the Bulldogs were just too good for the Lions taking away the four points.
Jed Kemp knotted up his best figures for the year, 36 disposals, six tackles, six marks and even had a shot at goal. Campbell Henderson had a comfortable 17 touches and booted two through the big sticks and so to Jacob Evitt with his hands on the ball 25 times a few marks and a goal to his name. Lance Collard kicked the most goals of the game for Subi with three straight.
The loss sees the Lions drop a spot on the ladder but will hope to get back on track next week for round 17 against West Perth. This clash will kick off at 9:40am on Saturday the 31st, so come on down for a day of Subi footy.
