Subi's Olympic Connection
Here’s a feel good story for your Friday, Subiaco Football Club have an Olympic connection amongst their own that could very well have been on the big stage himself. Ruckman Lewis Putt who has made his debut for Subi earlier this year has his older brother Tim competing in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games in the Men’s Water Polo team representing the Green and Gold. Lewis, alongside brother Tim, played and competed in Water Polo for a number of years even being selected to play in the FINA World Men’s Junior Championship in 2019 before making the decision to pursue his career in footy.
Putt started his footy days at Scarborough Junior Football Club and since made his way back in the last few years. Putt opted for footy instead of the pool and it paid off for him. Fast forward to a breakout season in A Grade Amateur footy in 2020 including being one of the best in Scarborough's Premiership winning Grand Final performance against North Beach; Lewis now finds himself playing WAFL footy for the Lions at league level. In just his short time at Subi this year, Putt has made a real name for himself and looks more than set for a 2021 finals campaign ahead.
Going from one Olympic athlete to another, one of the best stories to come out of the games so far, Peter Bol a starter in the 800m Men’s final and one who captivated the hearts of Millions Australians is the first cousin of Subi’s own Deng Maguang and looks to go down in Australian Olympic history. Deng much like the rest of the evidently overjoyed extended family of the 800m runner has been cheering him on from down under in his Olympic Debut.
