Match Preview v East Fremantle
Welcome to the third last game of our 2021 Home and away season where we will be playing East Freo this Saturday at 2:10pm during a predicted partly cloudy afternoon.
Keep an eye on Subiaco’s social media channels and app for updates across the day if you cannot make it to the game.
FORM
It’s Subiaco’s minor premiership to lose at this point given they are now a win clear from rivals South Freo in second and although no win will come easy as proven on many occasions this year, with Subi’s next three opponents currently outside of finals.
The Lions are coming off winning by five-points to secure the four points against fellow finals threat, Claremont last Saturday. After trailing in the early stages of the game, in true Subi fashion being one of, if not the best in the comp at doing it, reached another level in the second half to storm home with a win in a particularly impressive final quarter. Captain of the side, Leigh Kitchin has not failed to notch up 20 touches in a game this year, last week was no exception with 21 and five tackles too. It was the third time this season that Subi had won by a margin of less than 10 and left it up to the fourth term to determine the outcome of the game.
Subi can also take comfort in losses that have come this year as they were all no more than a three goal deficit, although no losses would be ideal, suffering no major result in their short comings are better than the opposite of such.
OPPONENTS FORM
East Freo however haven’t been on this bandwagon, they have won on five occasions this season and sit on a percentage of 88%. Last week not being one of those wins, facing their toughest, biggest and hardest loss to take against their cross-town rival South Freo by a final margin of 61-points. That being said, the week prior was a more positive note as they claimed that fifth win against the Swans despite being held scoreless for the third term.
Cameron Eardley leads the club for most disposals this season with an average of 24 while ex-AFL Sydney Swans player Jonathon Marsh and brother of Subi’s own Harry Marsh is leading in the goal scoring tally with 24.17.
GOAL KICKERS
Round two when these sides clashed Ryan Borchet got the highest individual score with 3.3 while Harry Marsh, Jordan Faraone both had doubles on the day.
An update on the Bernie Naylor medal situation, Subi’s representative for the medal, big bad Ben Sokol has hoisted himself into third spot with three games to go after a scintillating six goal performance last week.
LAST TWO TIMES
Not just the last two times but the previous five encounters with the Sharks have Subi come out on top by an average winning margin of 56 points. Back in round eight of last season Subi claimed the victory 12.12 (84) to 6.7 (43) and very similarly in the second game of this 2021 season, Subi came home with the win defeating the sharks, 8.5 (53) to 12.14 (86).
OTHER GRADES
Both the Subiaco Ressies and Colts are just one win out of the top 5 but are running out of time in fighting for that spot in finals. Their games will also be played this Saturday at 9:10am for the Colts and 11:40am for Reserves, so start your Saturday early and come on over to Leederville Oval to cheer these boys on.
