LEAGUE

Saturday’s game was a hard hitting match up against the Sharks that stunned Subi right from the get go, resulting in the visitors winning 16.12 (108) to 9.10 (64).

East Freo jumped them early with multiple back to back forward 50 entries and surprising the Lions with their ball movement through the middle. The quarter seemed to stretch on as both sides shared the missed opportunities unable to convert, but somehow after a handful of sending it wayward, Subi were able to start capitalising and ended the first term 17 points in front.

The Sharks did most of the goal kicking in the second, three goals to Subi’s two, despite the Lions blowing out their favoured margin to 27 points during the quarter. The lead to Subi was reduced to just 14 at the end of the first half after the Sharks started to produce a stunning 27-point turnaround.

The Sharks started to split Subi open, picking them apart through the middle. The home team couldn’t get a word in as the Sharks piled on the scoring in a mammoth seven goal term to put them in front with the final quarter to come. Subi were held scoreless for the the first time this season in a quarter and were certainly rattled by what East Freo were bringing to them.

It was 12 unanswered goals until Subi responded in the fourth quarter and although they kicked the last three goals, it wasn’t enough as East Freo went home 44-point victors.

Experienced middle man, Delahunty was Subi’s top performer for the afternoon having 32 disposals, twelve marks and five inside-50s. Hayden Kennedy had 26 touches, seven marks and a goal while Liam Hickmott joined him having 23 disposals, eight tackles and seven marks.

Ben Golding played to his strengths in a great debut performance , 11 touches and just as many tackles which was the most for the team. Jack Mayo topped the goal kicking with two majors.

Subi have got the bye to reset for their final two games of the regular season and hopefully lock away the minor premiership.

RESERVES

Subiaco’s ressies were the only beneficiaries of the premiership points for the Lions over the weekend coming away winning 14.10 (94) to 6.6 (42) against East Freo.

Subi were leading for every break in the game, the most at full time being 52-point winners.

The second quarter was telling as Subi had doubled the visitors scoring shots 12-6. Only three goals were kicked in the third term from either side, but Subi could hold onto a lead that was now 44 points.

A final three goals for the Lions was the icing on the cake and set them up to claim it a thrashing to the struggling Sharks.

Missing several players, Kaidyn Fullgrabe stocked up on his fair share of the ball having 37 touches and six marks being his best figures this season to fill some of the void. Ash (29), Robbins (26) and Johnson (25) had a combined 30 marks and nine tackles between the three of them.

Cameron Dean had the best figures in front of goal 3.2, joined by fellow three-goaler Aaron Breman. Doubles to Jordan Faraone, Josh Robbins and individual scorers who joined in on the flurry fo goals; Robinson, Jack Borchet, Page and Corderoy.

Colts players getting a gig with the Ressies was a great sign to show the talent that Subi is growing at the younger level and proved to be an impressive display with such inclusions.

COLTS

In a game they’d like to scrap from their memory, Subi played one their youngest teams on Saturday morning against a state-player-loaded East Freo side who ended up being much to good for the home team coming home a whopping 116-point certain victors in a percentage-boosting win.

For the briefest of moments, Subi were leading and happy where they were at as they kicked the first goal of the game. You could say the game then took a turn for the worst, although the 23-point lead East Freo held at quarter time was bearable and Subi had plenty of time to turn it around.

The Sharks seemed to be all over Subi moving forward and were drowning them with scoreboard pressure and not allowing them a look at their own goals. The backline was under the most pressure as they were swamped with repeat inside 50s.

It’s no question the day out East Freo had, but Subi were severely undermanned as a number of Reserves players were to miss their game, so the seniors of the Colts side had to feature in ressies to fill those holes. In addition to that, the Colts side had their own injury woes with three players missing Saturdays game after pulling up sore the week prior.

In one of their youngest teams, Subi’s team included two fifteen-year-olds, one of which, Luker Kentfield, was a part of the group of five debutants; Lachlan MacRae, Alex Sedlarczuk, Tennessee Kickett and Riley Burton. All five first gamers were under 18 and throughout the entire side, just two players were over the age of 18. Jacob Evitt had another great game with 16 touches, four tackles, six marks and even two goals as did Corey Bellouard having 14 disposals and six tackles.
Joining Jacob, Cruz Woodley and Jack Stevens scored the other two goals for the team.

The Sharks played with an influx of state players (five) which certainly contributed to such a dominating performance. That being said, the development that was able to be put on display through Subi’s team despite a game of footy to forget, was encouraging especially seeing the younger players getting an opportunity to play and get that experience against a quality opponent.

Subi’s next game will be against East Perth on Saturday 28th at 9:10am following their week off this weekend.
