Reserves Match Preview v Claremont

Thursday, September 23, 2021 - 10:32 AM

Subiaco’s reserves side are set to face minor Premiers, Claremont this Sunday to battle it out in the Preliminary Final to see who Perth’s opponent in the final decider will be the following week. Game starts 12pm at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.

Keep an eye on Subiaco’s social media channels and app for updates across the day and if you cannot make it to the game.

FORM

Subi produced a bit of an upset last weekend when they took down second-placed Swan Districts in the first Semi-Final and successfully advanced themselves deeper into September. The Lions won 11.11 (77) to 8.5 (53) and kicked out an out of form Swans side in a game that was decided in the final term when Subi outscored them four goals to one. Swans going out in straight sets being a slight shock to the system and now allows a Subiaco side to rise and hopefully walk away with a bounce in their step after this Sunday’s Prelim.

OPPONENTS FORM

Similar to the Black and Whites, Claremont didn’t get off on the right foot to start this Finals series, falling short to Perth by four points last Sunday after their week off. The Tigers had a near-perfect season recording just one single loss all year to the Swans in round one. From the end of that round onwards did they have the complete perfect run up until last week showing a few cracks again. Subi will be throwing everything at them and testing them just as the Demons did last week to hopefully come out grand finalists.

LAST TWO TIMES IN FINALS

The last time these two sides met in a final was last year’s Prelim when Claremont would go on to be runner up in the Premiership race. The Tigers won quite comfortably in the week prior to the grand final 12.5 (77) to 3.7 (25), a performance Subi would rather not be reminded of. The next most recent finals encounter was in 2018 for the same occasion, preliminary final, but the opposite result as success was written in Subiaco’s history having won another premiership the week later. This time it was the Lions to have the last laugh in a solid 42-point victory and with their heads held high, claimed the title of 2018 premiers against East Perth.

GOALKICKERS

In the 52 point loss, Subi faced this time last year Wil Hickmott, Mitchell Hughes and Jordan Adams were the ones to put Subi on the scoreboard, whilst 2018 on a much more positive note nearly half the team scored, Raymond Daniels being the only to get two to his name.

Amongst the impressive team performance, Craig Hoskins and Travis Cleggett had stellar showings with 25, 23 disposals respectively and seven tackles each to round out a complete finals series in 2018 from the club.
