Subi on top of WAWFL ladder with East Perth
The Subiaco Wheelchair AFL team, fresh off two wins after round one, commenced round two on Thursday 14 October at HBF Stadium, Mt Claremont.
Subiaco came up against both East Perth and Swan Districts once again, with teams playing four-on-four instead of the traditional five-on-five due to members on all teams being unable to make the Thursday night fixture.
Players representing Subi in both fixtures were Mark Daniels, Derek Mott, Ryan Zilioli and Jennifer Rennie.
Game 1 – East Perth Royals v Subiaco Lions
Coming into round two on Thursday 14th October, the Subiaco Wheelchair Football Team (SWFT) were top of the ladder with two big wins in round one.
In the first game of round two, Subiaco played East Perth Wheelchair Football Team (EPWFT).
SLFT inefficiency in front of goal cost Lions the win. EPWFT were kicking at 75% efficiency, compared to SWFT were kicking at 54%.
Furthermore, EPWFT created five more goal-scoring opportunities than SWFT due to winning more contested possessions.
In the end, East Perth defeated Subiaco 12.4 (76) to 6.5 (41). Dereck Mott from SWFT kicked three of Subiaco’s six goals. Ryan Zilioli kicked two and Mark Daniels kicking one.
Game 2 – Subiaco Lions v Swan Districts
After losing to East Perth in Subi’s first match of the round, Subi faced Swan Districts Wheelchair Football Team (SDWFT) in a game very different to their first match.
SWFT came out firing, kicking 10 goals in the first half to SDWFT’s one goal. Subi kept the Swan’s goalless in the first quarter, in a solid defensive effort.
Subi managed to build on their lead at Half Time, kicking a further six goals to SDWFT’s 1.2.
Compared to the kicking efficiency of 54% in game one against EPWFT, Subi managed to achieve a kicking efficiency of 84%.
In the end, Subiaco managed to claim victory by 86 points, a handy percentage booster, to finish 16.3 (99) to 2.2 (14).
Mark Daniels was the star in offence, kicking a ten goal haul, while Ryan Zilioli (four) and Derek Mott (two) also contributed.
