South West Lions Annual Gathering
It was a great day at Caves House in Yallingup on Saturday with the South West Lions annual Australia Day get together. Convenor Laurie Keene did a great job organising 60 + attendees at what has been a popular and growing annual must-attend for many. Kevin Merrifield, Ian Dargie, Neil Taylor, Phil Lamb, Brian Sarre, Peter Fancote, Clint Brown, Bret Hutchinson, Dobbie, Mark Lawrence, Neil Randall, Peter Capes, Dwayne Lamb, Trevor Nisbett, Garry Addison, Dennis Blair & Nathan O’Connor were just some of those there.
Laurie arranged a “secret” guest speaker to address the group and when he unveiled WAFC Chair Wayne Martin there was a muted welcome. Wayne proceeded to lay out the case to again consider sanctions against Subi to keep the WAFL competition and you could have heard a pin drop – based on the looks on many faces Wayne was not going to make it out of the room alive. However when he said that aside from points, salary cap and recruiting restriction, perhaps the coveted Kalgoorlie zone should be reallocated to the Eagles then most finally broke into a smile and we all got the joke – well done to Wayne and Laurie for the set-up.
Thanks to Laurie and the Caves House staff for a great weekend, make sure you get organised and join the fun next year.
