Subiaco Colts Pre-Season Update
Much like the senior squad, the Colts team are well into pre-season as they look to improve on the 2021 season, kicking off their campaign against South Fremantle in front of a home crowd.
Talking with Subiaco Football Club Talent Manager, Stuart Berryman, he said that the team arrived back at training in good condition post the Christmas and New Years break.
“The break is a tough period for the boys to stay consistent with training, not having coaches to keep them dependable plus the temptation of indulging is a challenge. However, a testament to the group putting in a solid effort with conditioning sessions recoded on Strava and small group sessions both locally and in Kalgoorlie and Esperance.”
“They returned enthusiastic to get back into Colts training and having improved on the overall 2km time trail” said Berryman.
James McKee continues as Head of the strength and conditioning program with the Colts and continues doing a great job in pushing the boys along.
There are a few players in the rehab group at this stage after a few pre-season niggles, but many players should reintegrate to training over the next few weeks and be available for early practice games and fighting for a spot in the round one team.
The aim for 2022, is the same each year; as a development pathway, the focus is giving players a chance to develop themselves as people and footballers.
“Players will be embarking on a camp in the coming weeks and between the coach and the playing group, we will look to set some specific aims for the team as well as choosing the 2022 Colts Leadership Group.”
“As for the aim of the Football Club, we look to prepare the boys for senior football so when they make the transition to playing league or reserves, they are up for the challenge,” said Berryman.
This year, the Colts team have many new players join the squad, a bulk of new players from the 2021 undefeated Futures side who graduated to the Colts Team. Joining the former future's players there are also a few exciting players new to the system who have gelled with the team well.
Berryman said there are a few players in the team who are in for big years; including 2021 Taylor Medallist Jacob Evitt.
“We see him [Evitt] bursting from the centre and getting on the end of a few goals.”
“Zac Sadowski will lead the defence, as a tall will be taking the most damaging forward.”
“Our forward line is full of exciting players that will put on a show so make sure you get down early and watch the future of Subiaco Football Club” said Berryman
