WAFLW: Round Three Match Preview vs South Fremantle

Thursday, March 3, 2022 - 11:22 AM by Matt Paddick

Subiaco will look to turn their season around when they take on South Fremantle under lights at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Friday March 4.

The Lions will look to find their best footy when the game gets started at 7:15pm.

FORM

Subiaco have had a mixed start to the season, but are yet to get on the board in 2022.

The Lions looked promising in round one in a one-point loss to last year’s Premiers Peel Thunder, where they led for a majority of the match.

However, last round, a strong Claremont outfit showed the team there’s still a long way to go if they are going to go the distance in 2022.

Meanwhile, the Bulldogs kicked off their season with a big win over West Perth, but fell victim to a last quarter surge from Peel in round two.

LAST TIME THEY MET

Subiaco has a strong record against South Fremantle, and it was no different when the two sides went head to head in round 10 of last season.

Although the Lions were wayward with their shots on goal, the team looked too strong on the day, winning 5.10 (40) to 2.3 (15).

It was the start of a run of games which saw Subiaco win six of their last seven to storm into the top four, and they will be hoping a win this weekend can spark something similar.

ONE TO WATCH

Although Subiaco had a disappointing loss, one of the standouts was vice-captain Jayme Harken.

She started off in the midfield and worked harder than anyone to help out the defence, having 12 disposals to half time.

She was then moved to the backline for the remainder of the contest, where her impact was felt, finishing with 22 disposals and seven marks for the match.

She’s proving to be a prolific ball winner, and is third in the competition for most disposals, and is capable of putting on pressure, as she’s number one at Subiaco for tackles this season.
