WAFLW: Round Six Match Preview vs West Perth

Thursday, March 24, 2022 - 1:47 PM by Matt Paddick

A well-rested Subiaco will be out to make a statement to the rest of the WAFLW when they take on West Perth at Provident Financial Oval on Sunday March 27.

Both teams will be desperate for a win to kickstart their respective seasons, where the Lions and the Falcons sit sixth and seventh on the ladder.

FORM

The round five bye for Subiaco could not have come at a more opportune time, as the Lions look to bounce back from a 1-3 start to season 2022.

While the side has shown some brilliance during the opening rounds, the team hasn’t had the consistency they would have liked.

Some league players were able to get some match practice in the reserves side in round five, with midfielder Abbey Dowrick looking back to her best with two goals, and Tylor McIntosh finding some form.

Meanwhile, West Perth have had their own struggles in their inaugural season, with the side yet to take four points this season.

However, the side will be hungry to have a win, so Subiaco will need to be switched on as the sides go head-to-head for the first time.

ONE TO WATCH

Despite being one of the tallest players on Subiaco’s list, Tess Lyons has flown under the radar, but is putting together a solid season.

In four matches this year, she’s been a standout in the ruck, leading the competition in total hitouts, averaging 19.5 per game.

While she’s able to give her teammates first use of the ball, her ability to follow up and impact the contest is impressive, and she aims to do so on a regular basis.

Lyons’ battle with West Perth’s Cameron Dawson will be exciting, with two of the competition’s up and coming rucks battling it out on Sunday.
