Taylor Medallist Evitt to lead Colts in 2022
Subiaco Colts midfielder Jacob Evitt has been selected to lead the side in season 2022.
He’s an accomplished player in the underage system, being a member of the State 17s side last year, as well as winning the Taylor Medal as Subiaco’s Colts best and fairest.
A damaging player with a sense for where the goals are, the 18-year-old averaged 18.6 disposals and 3.2 marks per game last season.
He said it was an honour to be named as skipper.
“In previous years I’ve looked up to who’s led me,” he said.
“I hope the boys can look at me as a leader, it means a lot to me.”
The Colts squad voted on those who should be considered for a leadership role, with the top seven required to send a video of themselves to the Colts coaches, outlining their credentials as a leader.
From there it was a decision from the coaching team to decide on the leadership group and who would lead the side.
Joining Evitt in the leadership group is co vice-captains Riley Wills, Jack Gouge and Ethan Barbieri.
Evitt said the spirits within the group are high, and that it would be up to him and the leadership group to maintain the attitude, as well as the standard.
2022 will be his third year in the Colts system.
In his first season, Evitt played in the club’s 2020 Colts premiership, alongside AFL talent Tyler Brockman, Matt Johnson, and Neil Erasmus.
The Taylor Medallist said he believes the side has what it takes to play finals, after missing out in 2021.
“The team is looking really strong at the moment,” he said.
“This year the group has really gelled, so we’re excited for round one.
“Hopefully we can have some success this year.”
