Futures: Lions withstand toughest battle yet
Following the Subiaco v WCE game, our Subiaco Futures took on East Fremantle Sharks in what was to be their hardest opposition to date.
The week lead in wasn’t without its challenges with over 10 players unavailable to train or play. This seem to deter the boys who had their best training week to date with the focus on pressure and first hands on the football.
Subiaco were off to a strong start with Esperance colts players Keiren Douglas squeezing a goal in from outside 50m for the first of 4 goals in the opening quarter. East Fremantle continue to put pressure on with some talented midfield players, however the defensive work of the Subiaco backs controlled by the golden fist of Yeabby Fasil and another solid game from Xavier Hickey nullified the Sharks hitting scoreboard.
Stand in ruckman, Brandon Gostlow was inspirational with his efforts across the ground getting voted best on ground. The lions continued to fight throughout the whole match, coming away victors, pleasing the coaching group. “With challenges happening all week, the performance by every single players was brilliant, that is Subi standard football,” stated Head Coach, Stuart Page following the game.
This weekend will be the final fixture for the Subiaco Futures with the side taking on South Fremantle following the League game. Stick around to see what will be an entertaining game with a physical Bulldogs side who will be looking to keep Subiaco from an undefeated season.
