RESERVES

The reserves had a tough outing, and were defeated by 57 points at the hands of the Bulldogs.

Five Colts players in Jack Gouge, Mitch Hassett, James McGuinness, Rory Murison, and Ryan Newick, were handed their reserves debuts, showing the quality of players coming through the Subiaco talent system.

The Lions got out to an early lead when Trey Kennedy put through the first goal of the game two minutes into the contest.

However South Fremantle was up to the challenge, as the teams traded goals before the Bulldogs broke away to a ten-point lead at quarter time.

The effort from South Fremantle could not be questioned, as they continued to convert opportunities while Subiaco were unable to get clean entry inside 50.

Goals from Subiaco were replied with multiples from the Bulldogs, as the Lions fell 7.3 (45) to 15.12 (102).

Jake South was one of the Lions’ best with 18 hit outs and 10 disposals, while 2020 Jack Clarke medallist Lachlan Vanirsen impressed with 14 disposals and nine tackles.

COLTS

Subiaco’s Colts side was too strong for South Fremantle, taking a 52-point win at home on Saturday.

It didn’t take long for the Lions to assert their authority on the contest, with Richard Bartlett putting through a goal within the first two minutes of the contest.

From there Subiaco piled on the pain, kicking nine goals including back-to-back goals from Luker Kentfield right before the half-time siren to extend the lead to 39 points.

It was more of the same from the Lions in the second half as they continued to stay on top in the contest.

The backline kept the Bulldogs to five goals for the match, as the Colts took the win 14.13 (97) to 5.15 (45).

Forward Koltyn Tholstrup looked a handful for South Fremantle, with his ability to find space inside 50 and his powerful right boot leading to a game-high three goals.

Robert Hansen Jr showed plenty of skills up forward with two goals, while Ethan Barbieri looked composed in the backline with 26 disposals.
