This weekend was the setting for the final round of the WAFL Futures competition, with the Lions took on the Bulldogs after the WAFL League game under lights at Leederville Oval. Another testing week with available players saw opportunity for Zaiden Winduss and Maddox Sykora to debut bringing the total Subiaco Futures players to 50 over the 6 week competition.

The home team started well with most of the momentum in the first quarter, shooting uncharacteristically start with 5 goals and 2 points while keeping the Dogs scoreless. Strong pressure coming from mid-sized mids in Charlie Burke and Max Brooks allowed the lions to start to pull away in the second quarter.

An inspired effort from best on ground Malakai Champion, producing a highlight reel of 6 majors and almost holding on to mark of the competition. Joining him with a haul of goals was local colts talent, Tyler Senge with 5 goals to his name. Down back Xavier Hickey produced another solid performance with team mate Jay Neindorf creating much difficulty for the visitors to score.

The win wraps up the Futures season with the team finishing undefeated for another season. “To see 50 new faces represent Subiaco and uphold the values of respect and ruthlessness was a pleasure to watch,” said Subiaco Talent Manager, Stuart Berryman. “The boys should be proud of their efforts and new skills they have picked up throughout the program, the future of Subiaco FC looks bright with this bunch.”
