WAFLW: Round 10 Match Preview vs Claremont

Thursday, April 21, 2022 - 1:44 PM by Matt Paddick

Subiaco’s WAFLW side will travel to Revo Fitness Stadium with a point to prove when they take on Claremont on Sunday April 24.

It will be a tough match for the sixth-placed Lions, but one they need to win in order to stay in the hunt for finals.

FORM

Subiaco haven’t had the start they would have liked, but a bye last round has given the side a chance to refresh to get themselves in the right space to fight their way back into the season.

They sit at two wins from seven matches, but are playing at a ground where they have won the past three matches at.

Meanwhile, Claremont have looked strong in 2022, with six wins and one loss to their name this season.

They also had a bye in round nine, and are coming off four wins in a row prior to it.

LAST TIME THEY MET

Claremont came to play at Leederville Oval, and Subiaco had no answers as the Tigers ran away 45-point winners in round two of this year.

Subiaco were unable to get on top in the contest, and kicked just the one goal for the match off the boot of Jess Ritchie.

Vice-captain Jayme Harken was prolific despite the loss, with a game-high 22 disposals, while Beth Schilling was a standout in defence.

ONE TO WATCH

The Lions will be looking to get more supply into the forward line to create more opportunities in front of goal.

It’s a statistic which hasn’t been in the favour of Subiaco in recent times, and it will be up to the midfield brigade to ensure the team gets looks up forward.

Captain Tarni Golisano and Harken have been the Lions’ premier ball winners, but the impact of Madizen Wilkins should not be underestimated.

She’s been terrific in the contest in recent times, averaging 17.7 disposals in the past three games and is often the one moving the ball inside forward 50.

The 20-year-old continues to grow as a player, and will be important for the Lions going forward.
