WAFL: Round Six Match Preview vs East Fremantle
Subiaco will feature in the first League football match at the WACA Ground since before the start of the millennium when they take on East Fremantle on Saturday May 28.
1994 was the last time the WAFL was played at the ground, while the last time the Lions played there, it was an elimination final victory over Swan Districts.
It’s set to be a tough contest, with both teams looking to keep their winning momentum going.
FORM
The Lions have been building after their 0-3 start to the season, and things appear to have clicked for the side.
After a nail biting one-point win over East Perth, Subiaco travelled to Kalgoorlie and surged to a 14-point victory.
The side now sits at 2-3, with percentage separating the Lions from entering the top five.
Meanwhile, the Sharks have looked strong in their start to the 2022 campaign, sitting in second on the ladder.
After a loss to Peel Thunder in round one, East Fremantle have been one of the form teams in the competition, winning their last four matches.
The Sharks’ engine room will be front of mind for the Lions, as they have been the driving force behind their success so far this year.
LAST TIME THEY MET
Subiaco were stunned at the hands of East Fremantle, going down by 44 points when the two sides last fought in round 19 of last season.
It was all going to plan for the Lions, until a scoreless third term opened the door for the Sharks, who took full advantage.
While Subiaco fell to the Sharks who were out of finals contention, it was a loss that perhaps the side needed, as they geared towards the 2021 Premiership.
Lachlan Delahunty did all he could to get the Lions back into it, with 32 disposals and 12 marks, while Chad Harris was one of Subiaco’s best on the day with 18 touches and a goal.
ONE TO WATCH
Against his old side, Jordan Snadden will be looking to have an impact as the Lions look to continue their form this season.
The big-bodied midfielder has shown glimpses of his best, as he adjusts to his new team’s style of play.
He’s averaging 13 disposals and four tackles per game so far in 2022, and will no doubt want to impress against his old side.
