2022 Kalgoorlie Esperance Zone Carnival
WA Day long weekend saw Digger Daws Oval, Kalgoorlie, play host to best year 9, 10 boys and youth girls from the Goldfields Football League and Esperance Districts Football Association. It was a great carnival with some close results across the 2 days and some highly skilled players showing off their talents.
In chilly conditions, on Sunday the Goldfields boys got the better of Esperance with wins in both the Year 9 and 10 boys games. Their highlight of the day however was the 1-point nailbiter between the youth girls teams with Esperance coming away with an exciting victory.
After a hearty dinner provided by Kalgoorlie's parents and a night of restful sleep in swags, players were ready to go again on Monday with some team shuffles and the best talent across the 2 teams for the boys playing the final fixture. The Goldfields boys were off to another impressive start in game 1 with Mahlyk Sambo and Tyrell Pickett for the GFL putting in some impressive performances.
Another close game between the youth girls followed with Lilley Hollands and Sienna Kinninmont dangerous for Goldfields but the likes of Annika Stone and Chloe Seivwright were too strong for the Esperance girls who pulled away with a strong win.
The final game between the all-star teams was a great end to round out the carnival. Esperance looked comfortable in the first half with rock-solid defending from Keenan Rymer and plenty of inside 50 entries from Ollie Moeauri. However, Goldfields were too strong in the second half with goal sneak Jake Tucker kicking away with the help of the BOG performance of Isaac Billings.
“It was awesome to see the best talent of our regional area compete in such a competitive environment,” says Subiaco Talent Manager, Stu Berryman. “We currently have great representation from both Kalgoorlie and Esperance in our talent pathway and are excited to see this next exciting generation of footballers come through the ranks,”
Subiaco FC would like to thank all those who contributed to the 2022 Zone Carnival; The GFL and Junior Commissioner, Brent Gouge without your effort the carnival wouldn’t have happened, EDFA staff, Mines Rovers FC and Boulder City FC for hosting and all coaches and staff involved.
