RESERVES

The Lions were left to rue missed chances in front of goal, as they fell by 12 points to Claremont at Leederville Oval on Saturday July 23.

The heavy rain made it difficult for both sides, but the Tigers were the first to get on the board, kicking three goals to Subiaco’s three behinds in the opening term.

It was more of the same in the second quarter, as Claremont got out to a 34-point lead at half time, keeping the Lions goalless in the process.

With shortened quarters in the second half due to lightning, Subiaco began to get the game on their terms, but faced an uphill battle given they were yet to score a goal.

With nothing to lose, the Lions began to play with a bit of freedom and kicked four goals, keeping Claremont scoreless in the process.

However, the Tigers were able to hold firm, giving the Lions their first loss since round four.

Patrick Mullane set the tone with his defensive pressure, laying eight tackles and gathering nine disposals, while Rylie Morgan continued to find the football in the conditions, with a game-high 19 touches.

COLTS

The Lions were able to ride the wave of momentum throughout the game, to finish 10-point winners over Claremont.

Subiaco looked to put their authority on the contest early in the wet, with Riley Mayfield kicking back to back goals to help the side out to an early lead.

The Tigers fought back in the second, but the Lions kicked three in a row to stretch the lead to 21 points at half time.

Claremont refused to back down, and fought back to be within seven points of Subiaco to start the fourth quarter.

However, neither team could convert for major scores, with the Lions scoring five behinds to the Tigers’ two, sealing the win.

Mayfield finished with three goals and 20 possessions to be one of Subiaco’s best, while debutant Judd Kelman looked comfortable at the level, collecting 22 disposals.
