WAFL: Round 16 Match Preview vs West Coast
Subiaco will be looking to finish their season on a high, with West Coast firmly in their sights when the two sides battle at New Choice Homes Park on Saturday August 6.
It will be a fierce contest that both sides will be looking to win as the end of the WAFL season looms.
FORM
The Lions will be hoping the week off will wield better results than their recent form suggests.
Subiaco in the last month have fallen to three finals contenders in East Fremantle, Peel Thunder, and Claremont, but have had moments in all three games where they looked to threaten.
Round 16 provides the side with an opportunity to capitalise on the hard work they’ve put in on the training track.
However, the same can be said for the Eagles, who have one win in 2022.
Their sole victory came within the last month, and their AFL-listed talent will be some the Lions must put effort into if they are to come out victors.
LAST TIME THEY MET
In a rare home-and-away fixture at Optus Stadium in round nine, Subiaco were 28-point winners in a competitive outing.
West Coast came at the Lions early, but it was Ryan Borchet who set the tone and helped his side over the line.
The key forward kicked five goals from 12 disposals and took six marks to be one of Subiaco’s best on the day.
ONE TO WATCH
A highlight of Subiaco’s season has been the debutants who have looked comfortable at league level.
In round 7, Galen Savigni played his first game of league football, and has shown he’s able to hold his own.
The defender claimed 19 disposals in his last outing and used the ball well, despite the wet conditions. Earning him a debut selection in the WAFL team of the week.
The 2020 colts premiership player, Savigni has the potential to be one of the club’s leaders in the future.
