WAFL: Round 20 Match Preview vs West Perth
The Lions will have nothing to lose when they take on West Perth at Pentanet Stadium in their final game of 2022 on Saturday September 3.
With Subiaco out of the finals hunt, but with winning form on their side, round 20 could prove to be a danger game for the top of the ladder Falcons.
FORM
In recent times, the Lions have looked like a completely different side.
They’ve won three of their past four games, capped off by a 63-point win against Perth to send off Lachlan Delahunty in style.
With a free hit as the side travels north, Subiaco will leave nothing in the tank against a quality opposition.
West Perth have been the benchmark all season, sitting first on the ladder.
The side has two wins and one loss in the past month, most recently falling to the Swans in round 19.
LAST TIME THEY MET
It was back in round three the two sides last met, with the Falcons winning by 31 points.
West Perth took control of the game early, with the Lions forced to play catch up for the rest of the match.
On the day, Ryan Borchey looked the best of the men in maroon and gold, as he crashed packs and looked to create from nothing.
ONE TO WATCH
It will be 50 games in the WAFL for Harry Marsh in round 20.
He’s been a superb player for the Lions since returning to WA from Sydney in the AFL, playing a variety of roles.
The stats suggest he enjoys playing against the Falcons, gathering 28 possessions, seven marks and a goal the last time in his last game against West Perth.
Another thing to look out for will be the Reserves and Colts, who are both fighting for third spot on their respective ladders.
Both are taking on good opposition, and will need to win to secure the double chance.
