Friday, September 9, 2022 - 9:21 AM by Matt Paddick

Subiaco will be looking to keep their winning momentum going against a quality Peel Thunder outfit at New Choice Homes Park on Saturday September 10.

Their win in round 20 sealed a third-placed finish, where the side has a double chance for the finals.

There will be a mental battle for the Lions, but will be up for the challenge when the first ball is bounced.

FORM

Subiaco appear to have hit their straps heading into the finals.

A loss to South Fremantle in round 18 looks to have galvanised the group.

The Lions have had back-to-back wins to finish the season, including a thrilling three-point win over the top of the ladder Falcons.

It’s the test the side needed, as they prepare to take on second-placed Peel.

The Thunder have claims to be the form team of the competition, with their last loss coming in round nine.

However, the Lions have proven they can win the big games, and will give it their all on Saturday.

LAST TIME THEY MET

Under lights in Mandurah, Subiaco lost by 17 points, despite a comeback during the match.

They were down by 37 points in the last quarter, but worked their way back into the contest.

However, time was the enemy, with the Thunder doing the work early to get the win.

Jack Gouge was important on the day, with 19 disposals and six tackles.

ONE TO WATCH

Fresh from his stint with the WA state team, Koltyn Tholstrup is one who looms as important for the Lions.

His forward prowess is known, having kicked 23 goals from 11 games, but he’s had an impact up the ground as well.

The 17-year-old is averaging 14 disposals and a goal per game in the past month, and his presence will be important for Subiaco during the finals.
