Reserves: Semi Final Match Report vs South Fremantle
Subiaco are through to the Preliminary Final, following a 43-point win over South Fremantle at Revo Fitness Stadium on Sunday September 18.
After an even first quarter, the Lions burst away in the second, kicking five goals in quick time, gathering all of the momentum in the process.
They were able to maintain the margin for the remainder of the game, taking out the 14.10 (94) to 7.9 (51) win.
Lachie Vanirsen continued his strong season, as did Jaxon McGowan who was influential in defence.
Patrick Mullane was a strong interceptor all day, and Josh Robbins broke the lines with his speed.
It was a tough, contested game from the very start, as both sides felt each other out.
South Fremantle got the first goal from the boot of Jake Hinder, but the Lions hit back.
Jack Borchet took a strong mark in front of goal and converted, before Jake South found space and kicked truly to get the Lions the lead.
However, a late major from the Bulldogs had them two points up at quarter time.
Subiaco came out firing in the second term to take control of the game.
After Jordan Faraone kicked his first, the flood gates opened and it was all Lions.
Vanirsen, McGowan, and Jake Stergiou helped Subiaco get the game on their terms, playing a fast, free-flowing style of play.
The side kicked five majors in a row and looked unstoppable on their way to a 29-point lead.
However, the Bulldogs would hit back, scoring two late majors to reduce the margin to 19 points at half time.
The Lions continued on their way in the third, outscoring South Fremantle four goals to two.
Subiaco looked the better side, with their skills by foot setting them apart.
With the game all but sealed in the last term, the Lions kept up the pressure to claim the win.
It sets up a Preliminary Final clash with Claremont at New Choice Homes Park on Sunday September 25.
