Murison cruises to the 2022 Taylor Medal

Rory Murison has added another feather to his incredible 2022 season claiming a dominant victory in the Taylor Medal.

Although the evening saw multiple vote count leaders, Murison’s backend and Subiaco’s injury woes had the Kalgoorlie prodigy looming like a great white shark.

After recently being named in the WAFL Colts Team of the Year, Murison was always going to be tough to beat in the count. The strong-bodied midfielder averaged 16.8 disposals and five tackles throughout 2022, a driving force for the Lion’s midfield.

Subiaco’s Talent Manager, Stuart Berryman said "Rory has been a superstar for the team all year, both on and off the field. Stepping up as a leader for the team, especially in the adversity of key injuries".

The top three saw Lachlan Macrae claim the Outstanding Play Award for 3rd Fairest and Best with 352 votes and Ethan Barbieri winning the Rod Wholoham Award for 2nd Fairest and Best with 366 Votes. Both Macrae and Barbieri were instrumental for the Lions this season, with Macrae, unfortunately, missing the finals campaign due to an ankle injury.

Others included in the top 10 were Robert Hansen Jnr, Dylan Cordier, Ky Franceschini, Dylan O’Dea, Jack Gouge, Rylie Burton and Ryan Newick. 

O’Dea was leading halfway through the count but unfortunately due to injuries missed the majority of the season.

Franceschini was awarded Player of the Finals, Tyson Wright the Lionhearted Award for most courageous and Dylan Cordier claimed the Best First Year Player. The 2022 Gold – Ladies Forum winner was Dylan O’Dea and the Subiaco Past Players and Supporters awarded their trophy to Lachlan O’Keefe.

A new addition to the evening saw the Mick ‘Magic’ Bailey Award presented to the player who performed consistently throughout the year both on and off the field, showing dedication to the club and teammates. The deserving winner was Robert Hansen Junior.

The evening also celebrated the final formality with Chayce Creedy as Head Coach, who is now moving into a role with the Senior programme. A fitting tribute from Chayce was met with the appropriate support of a Club that is extremely grateful for the years of service.

With the Taylor Medal concluded, the Colts programme will break until November for the start of pre-season. Membership information for Season 2023 will be released over the coming weeks.
