Promising future looms as 14's dominant again
Subiaco FC futures stars performing in fine fashion with another successful 14s Development program. The 3-game carnival wrapped up the Subiaco 14s Development Program last week with the young Lions putting on a show against Perth, Peel and East Perth.
The team, coached by experienced Subiaco Development Coach, David Emes, we’re put through their paces over an 8-week training program, as an introduction to the boys into the WAFL environment. Starting with a group close to 100, the final group of 47 we’re selected as those who are or will be up to the standard of future WAFL players.
The team gelled well, bringing together boys from the 7 Subiaco District clubs as well as some boys playing for other junior clubs. This comradery was put on show against Perth in their first game where Subiaco put on a dominant display. Joining them were players from Subiaco’s regional zones, from the Goldfields Football League and the Esperance District Football Association.
A trip down to Rushton Park for the second day started slow with a strong looking Peel reserves side too good in game 1 but Subiaco came bull out of the gate in game 2 showing link of play with silky skills picked up over the course of the program.
The program was wrapped up on home turf against co-tenants, East Perth. The Subiaco outfits exhibiting the infamous Subiaco pressure that was too much for the royals. At the end of the game, the most commitment and best performing boys were presented with awards for their efforts over the program being; Caleb Zloich, Sebastian Triplett, Adam Schmechtig, Harrison Gilford, Kyan Perera and Jayden Leone.
Subiaco Talent Manager, Stuart Berryman was impressed with the group over the carnival, “The boys put in a massive effort over the program and were gifted with some strong result across the carnival games but more pleasing was a massive improvement in their football skills and knowledge. They are lucky to have a knowledgeable team of coaches willing to help them in their football journey which I’m sure with number of them will include representing Subiaco one day”
