Subiaco Women's Development Squad show the way towards future success
Over the past eight weeks, our club has identified the top young female footballers within the Subiaco district to form our 2022 MDS Girls Development Squad. From the first training sessions on Monday nights at Birralee Reserve to the gruelling final game against West Perth, this group of young talent is one to watch.
A scratch match against Perth proved to be a tough start, with a 30-degree day and strong winds. Despite unpleasant conditions, the girls pushed through, adapting to the harsh conditions with resilience.
Game one at Steel Blue Oval was not much easier as the team took on Swan Districts. With another hot day and the notoriously wide oval that is Steel Blue, it was never going to be an easy game. Despite the obstacle, the girls were valiant, but the Swans were too strong.
Game two at Leederville Oval against West Perth allowed the girls to finish the Development Squad program on a high. It was evident that hard work had paid off with skills learnt through training and match play on display. A strong start and solid defence proved the differentiating margin over the falcons, completing their program with a smile on their faces and pride for themselves, their teammates and Subiaco.
Women's Football Operation Manager, Zoe Bain "The ability of the team to come together and work towards something special is a sign of good times ahead. It is a testament to the Players, Parents/Guardians, Community Clubs and of course, our incredible support staff".
With season 2022 complete, the WAFLW program shifts its focus to League and Rogers preseason which will begin in the coming weeks.
