Dominant Lions take down Swans
A comprehensive performance from Subiaco has seen them victorious over Swan Districts at Steel Blue Oval on Sunday March 19.
The Lions were challenged early, but weathered the storm before going on the attack.
They were relentless all game, taking the 8.9 (57) to 1.4 (10) win.
The result was largely off the back of a few key players.
Jess Ritchie was influential in every position she played throughout the day, with two goals and 14 disposals to her name.
Meanwhile, veteran Tiah Toth was a massive presence for the Lions, and led the way with her tackling pressure as she finished with 21 touches and 10 tackles.
The first term was full of pressure coming from the Swans.
For the majority of the quarter, the ball was played in the home side's forward half.
However Subiaco's defence, led by Beth Schilling, gave nothing away.
It allowed the Lions to score goals against the flow of play, with Ritchie, Toth, and Kelsey Patterson kicking majors to have their side in front.
From there, the play was all with Subiaco.
Claudia Langley showed her skills, hitting Patterson lace out inside 50.
She converted to get her second, before Eva Popovsky kicked truly to continue the momentum.
The Lions had all the momentum heading into the half, with captain Tarni Golisano kicking a goal on the siren for a six-goal lead.
There was a small fightback from the Swans, as Tamzyn Beros kicked her side's first for the day.
It would be the only one the Lions would give up, with Ritchie kicking her second to stop Swan Districts in their tracks.
Joanne Cregg put the nail in the coffin in the last, kicking a set shot to round out the 47-point win.
The win moves the Lions to third on the WAFLW ladder, setting up a top four clash with East Fremantle on Saturday March 25.
Meanwhile, Subiaco had a win in the Rogers Cup, defeating Swan Districts by 14 points.
