WAFLW: Round 12 Match Preview vs Claremont
Subiaco are set to face their toughest challenge to date this season, when they head to Broome for the WAFLW’s Indigenous Round.
The task proves to be an important one for the Lions, as they aim to get back into the top four.
FORM
Subiaco has faced both strong highs, and disappointing lows in the past month.
After a loss to West Perth at home, the side responded with a good win over East Perth.
Following that, it was a spirited 10-point win over East Fremantle, before a heartbreaking one-point loss against Swan Districts in Round 11 last week.
It has the Lions in fifth on the ladder on percentage, so a win this week will go a long way to staying on pace for a finals berth.
Meanwhile, Claremont are the team to beat in 2023.
The reigning Premiers are undefeated this season, with their only blemish coming against East Fremantle in round nine when the two sides drew.
It will be a test for Subiaco, but one they will embrace as they head to the state’s north.
LAST TIME THEY MET
The Lions were forced to reset, following their match against Claremont in round four.
It was a tough day for Subiaco, who lost by 60 points at Leederville Oval.
Despite the result, the side was able to regroup, and is different to the one that played on the day.
It sets up an exciting clash when the two sides face off on Saturday May 27.
ONE TO WATCH
Described by her coach as “one of the bravest” players he’s seen, Grace Hahnel is having an impact in her first WAFLW season.
She’s made the wing role her own, and works hard to link the forwards and backs.
Against a hard working Claremont, her role is as important as anyone in the side, and will be key to the Lions’ structure.
