Subiaco fought valiantly, but were forced to take a 15-point loss against Claremont in Broome. Sporting the Kevin Bynder-designed guernseys for Indigenous Round, the team put the pressure on the top of the table Tigers, and were competitive for the entire match.

Less than 10 points separated the two sides for the majority of the contest, with the statistics relatively even between the two sides. However, a Claremont goal halfway through the last quarter made it difficult for the Lions.

Subiaco continued to press, but fell 3.4 (22) to 1.1 (7) at the final siren.

Defender Hali Epis played one of her best games, showing composure on the last line of defence with nine disposals. Meanwhile, Grace Hahnel continued her good form, working hard and impacting in the heat for 10 touches.

The temperature gauge reached 30 degrees as the ball was bounced in the state’s north. Claremont were the first to strike, scoring through Adele Arnup, before Hanna Dethlefsen handballed to Agnes Monisse in space, who converted for the Lions’ first.

Monisse shortly after was forced from the ground, due to a shoulder injury. The slog continued in the second term, with both teams getting their fair share of forward 50 entries.

The two sides were locked in an arm wrestle, but a mark and goal to Rachel Ortlepp late in the half saw Claremont lead by eight points at half time. Subiaco’s pressure after half time was immense, as they looked to take the game on.

The battle was heated, as the Lions continued to push forward. Despite their dominance, neither team was able to score, setting up a tense last quarter.

With all to play for, Subiaco continued to press, with Lauren Bilaloski narrowly missing a snap on goal to bring down the margin. Despite the efforts from the Lions, Claremont were able to score at the other end, sealing the result.

Meanwhile in Perth, the Rogers Cup side had a similar fate, going down to the Tigers by 44 points.
