WAFL: Round Nine Match Preview vs West Coast
No game is ever guaranteed in the WAFL, and the same has to go for this weekend when Subiaco takes on West Coast at Mineral Resources Park on Saturday June 10.
Despite where the two teams sit on the ladder, history has shown the Eagles have found ways to win when it seemed unlikely, including against the Lions.
While Subiaco goes in favourites, they will need to put in a strong performance to get the win.
To add to the occasion, skipper Leigh Kitchin returns from injury, while a veteran will celebrate game 150.
FORM
Subiaco have looked impressive this year, and will be looking to have an impact come September.
For the short term, the Lions are one of the form sides of the competition.
They’ve won four out of the last five games, including a good win over a Fremantle-heavy Peel Thunder in Mandurah last week.
With some more experienced players still to return, Subiaco look a dangerous side as we progress further into the season.
Meanwhile, West Coast’s reserves team has suffered from their AFL injury crisis.
Throughout the season, they have struggled to get WAFL games for their AFL-listed players.
Their winless start to the season means they will be desperate for one come Saturday.
LAST TIME THEY MET
Subiaco proved too strong for the Eagles when the two sides faced in Round 16 of last season.
The Lions were challenged, but ultimately took the win 14.6 (90) to 9.13 (67).
On the day, Ben Sokol was a focal point, kicking 3.3 to be the difference in the game.
ONE TO WATCH
Veteran Aaron Heal will celebrate his 150th WAFL game this weekend.
The 30-year-old has been instrumental to the club’s success, having featured in four Premierships.
He’s one of the key components of Subiaco’s backline, and will have an important role for the side going forward.
