WAFL: Subiaco moves to second after win over Eagles
Subiaco completed a comprehensive 129-point win over West Coast at Mineral Resources Park on Saturday 10 June.
The Lions clicked into gear early, and refused to take the foot off the pedal.
They piled on the pain, kicking eight goals in the final term to win 25.16 (166) to 5.7 (37).
Jaimon Alone was strong for the Lions, with 28 disposals and eight inside 50s.
Liam Hickmott continued his good form this year, with 32 disposals, while Ben Sokol (eight goals) and Jack Mayo (six) contributed heavily to the win.
It moves the Lions to second on the Ladder, sitting behind only on percentage.
The win celebrated Aaron Heal’s 150th game in the WAFL, as he returned to the League side along with skipper Leigh Kitchin.
The Eagles initially got the jump on Subiaco, with Jack Williams kicking the first goal.
However, Ryan Borchet was quick to respond, kicking the Lions’ first.
The Lions piled on four more goals for the term to lead by 14 at quarter time.
Subiaco turned on the afterburners in the second term, kicking six goals in a row to stop the Eagles in their tracks.
The Eagles managed to get one back, but it still meant a 51-point margin separated the two sides at half time.
The Lions continued to dominate the contest after the main break.
Ben Sokol caught fire, kicking three goals to further cement Subiaco’s lead.
Subiaco controlled the game, keeping West Coast scoreless for the better part of a half, while keeping the scores flowing from the other end.
Jack Mayo played a role in maintaining scores with four goals in the last term, including a miraculous goal over his head.
It put the exclamation point on a strong result for Subiaco.
