WAFL: Round 13 Match Preview vs Peel Thunder
Subiaco will look to make the adjustments to prime themselves for a September run in 2023.
Their next task: a battle with Peel Thunder at Leederville Oval on Saturday July 8.
It’s the clash where the side will celebrate NAIDOC Round, sporting their jerseys designed by Subiaco’s own Des Headland and artist Kevin Bynder.
FORM
Subiaco have looked a dominant side throughout 2023, and as they aim to return to finals.
The Lions have won four out of their past five, with their loss coming at the hands of an in-form Claremont last week.
It could prove to be an important result in the context of the season, with the top five separated by just two wins.
One of those teams is Peel Thunder, who will be looking to continue their good form in recent times.
They’ve won back to back games on either side of the bye, against Perth and South Fremantle.
The two sides, who sit third and fourth on the ladder, will be desperate to get a win, and earn some separation in the top five.
LAST TIME THEY MET
On a wet Mandurah day back in round eight, the Lions were triumphant against the Thunder, winning by six points.
It was a heavily contested match, with strong wind and rain causing stoppages around the ground.
Peel threatened to steal the win late after Subiaco led at three quarter time, but the Lions held on for a good win.
Zac Clarke was influential in the win, with 35 hit outs to go with 18 disposals.
ONE TO WATCH
While relatively experienced in terms of games, Ben Golding is showing football smarts beyond his years.
At 21-years-old, he’s hit a patch of form where he continues to influence games.
Most recently, Golding played a role which nearly saw the Lions take the win last week.
Already a three-time Premiership Lion (once each in League, Reserves, and Colts), the North Beach product has shown he belongs at the level, and his influence could be the difference this weekend.
