WAFL: Round 14 Match Preview vs Swan Districts

The Lions are looking to break a run of losses, when they head to Bassendean to take on Swan Districts at Steel Blue Oval on Sunday July 16.

After a tough couple of games, Subiaco will be keen to get back to their winning ways to move back up the ladder.

It’s an important milestone for defender Aaron Heal, who’s set to play game number 150 for the club this weekend.

Meanwhile, Wil Hickmott will run out in his 50th game for the Lions.

The Lions are two wins separated from top spot, following back-to-back losses against Claremont and Peel Thunder.

Prior to that, the side appeared to have found its groove, with four wins in a row.

The side is fifth on the ladder, behind East Fremantle on percentage with eight wins and four losses.

A win this weekend would help get the side back on track, heading into the pointy end of the season.

Meanwhile, the Swans have been competitive throughout 2023, but have been on the losing side of some close ones.

Their percentage of 96.27 shows how close they’ve been this year, despite their 4-8 record.

Subiaco can not afford to treat the Swans lightly, especially at their home ground.

LAST TIME THEY MET

The Lions were four-point winners when the two sides faced back in round seven.

Swan Districts got the jump on Subiaco, but the Lions put in the work to get back in the contest.

A three-goal to one final quarter was enough to see Subiaco take the four points.

Galen Savigni’s intercept game proved important throughout the contest.

ONE TO WATCH

Kyle Stainsby is returning to his very best, after overcoming setbacks early in the season.

Against Peel, he showed great persistence in quelling the influence of Fremantle-listed player Bailey Banfield.

A former Outridge Medallist, Stainsby will be important in shutting down some of the Swans’ best forwards.
