Petrevski Finishes on a High

The skies over Sullivan Logistics Stadium may have been a dark grey on Sunday, but the atmosphere in the Subi change rooms were anything but gloomy after the Women’s squad ended their 2024 season with a convincing victory over West Perth.
The first three quarters of the afternoon were almost totally balanced. At Three Quarter Time, both sides boasted exactly 47 tackles and possession of the ball was split 52%-48% in Subi’s favour in the low-scoring contest.
However, the energy shifted in the last quarter, Subi kicked 4 goals and kept West Perth goalless for the entire match, ending the day 6.6.42 to 0.9.9 and securing a 33-point victory.
While a sudden downpour of rain during the final break could explain the sudden shift in the game’s balance, Aimee Schmidt had a different theory.
“In the last quarter we really got the game on our terms. Given it was our last game of the season we wanted to finish off strong,” Schmidt said.
“Multiple girls stood up yesterday when they were needed most. Tess Lyons led from the front, Clare McCarthy and Hali Epis were strong down back and Olivia Wolmarans was dangerous up forward!”
Krstel Petrevski also shone as usual, accumulating 27 disposals and finishing the season with 249 disposals over 11 matches.
The victory ensures the squad ends the season on a high, with the squad coming off two close losses with a combined margin of 5 points that ended their Finals hopes.
“Seeing the players grow, develop and really take their games to another level has been a highlight for me this year,” Schmidt said. “Hopefully that’s something we can continue to build on for next year.”
Subiaco finished the 2024 WAFLW season in 5th place.
The Rogers squad had the weekend off with a bye in the final round of the Rogers season. Finishing 3rd on the Rogers Cup ladder, they qualify for the Finals series and will challenge Swan Districts on Sunday at Pentanet Stadium.
