Subiaco Returns to The Winners List
Unity and resilience were the drivers for the Subiaco league in their narrow victory over the top of the ladder peel thunder in Mandurah.
After being humbled by East Fremantle, the lions used the bye to reflect on their form and the Sharks loss and it clearly worked with a six point win over the Fremantle Dockers – WAFL aligned club, Peel.
“We recognised peel’s strengths to move the ball quickly to their forward targets, so restricting that was a key to our success,” said coach Beau Wardman.
“Jaimon Alone and Greg Clark were strong inside, while Luke Foley and Connor Faraone were great off half back,” Wardman added.
The teams fourth win of the season keeps their final aspirations alive but will need another disciplined effort against their Sullivan Logistics Stadium co- tenants, East Perth.
“Like Peel, they (East Perth) have been the benchmark all year. The Royals have talent all over the ground.” Said coach Wardman.
The Saturday showdown at 2.30pm is part of Naidoc Round.
“We celebrate Naidoc Round and living that experience with our playing group and indigenous players is going to be a great connecting opportunity.
This weekend is also a great chance for the Subiaco colts and reserves to consolidate their finals chances. The colts are third and only percentage behind West Perth, who sit second. The Lion’s reserves are second and a game clear of East Fremantle.
