Beattie Built a Career at Subi

The Club is excited to announce a new Community Partnership with local construction company Subi Group, a partnership that former premiership player Anthony Beattie was instrumental in helping orchestrate.

"When I spoke to the guys about joining the Subi Group as a Project Manager, I joked that Subiaco had a special place in my heart, and I would only join if they sponsored the Lions" he said. "It was tongue in cheek, but I guess that planted the seed and as I kept talking about how important the club was in getting me established as a person, the team at Subi Group got more and more interested in the club and a potential partnership."

Beattie joined the Lions from Toodyay in 1999, having been let go from the Perth Demons programs and was given a not so warm introduction from League coach Kevan Sparks, who played with Beattie's father Phill in Toodyay.

"Sparksie more or less told me not to expect any favours from him (because he knew my dad) and that the only chance I had to succeed at the Club was if I worked harder than everyone else. The actual language was stronger than that" he joked. "That conversation put me on the back foot a bit, but I took it onboard and worked as hard as I could in the gym and on the training track to become a league player."

As fate would have it, Beattie timed his run at Subiaco to perfection, progressing through the reserves to play in both the 2004 and 2007 League Premierships and finishing with 89 League games before his construction career became too busy to keep playing league football.

Perhaps even more important than the premierships for Beattie, was the friendships made and lessons learned along the journey, "Subiaco was not just a place where I played football; it was where I learnt the invaluable lessons that have shaped my life—discipline, resilience and hard work."

"Now, through Subi Group, I have the privilege of giving back to the club that gave me so much, helping ensure it continues to inspire."

Club Commercial Manager Joe Georgiades recalls Beattie's time at the Club "I remember Beats coming down from the country and being a bit of a loose cannon in the early days, so it's been great to see that he not only had a successful career at Subi winning two flags, but also what he's achieved in the construction industry, and that his time here left such an impression - that he is now keen to help the club continue to inspire the next generation."

"It is great to partner with a local company on the up and the (Subi Group) partnership will help us get stronger in both our Men's and Women's programs in 2025." he said.
