2025 Lions Pride Practice Match Recap

Subiaco FC regional talent was on show this weekend with the inaugural 'Lions Pride Practice Match' between the Kalgoorlie and Esperance academies at Ports Football Club in Esperance.
The Lions Pride Academies are an invitational program for the most talented 15 to 19 year old players from the Goldfields and Esperance areas. The academies allow the best players in the area to train with all other gifted athletes their age under the guidance of top coaches to push their development & coach similar drills to the Perth based Subiaco FC Talent programs. The goal of these programs is to build a strong pathway for the best players located in Subi's regional zone to the club
This weekends Practice game was an opportunity for the boys to show their talents in front of Subiaco's Talent manager and local selectors before the start of the season and show how hard they have been working over the preseason block.
The start to the game was competitive with Esperance getting the first score on the board, however, Kalgoorlie kicked a few to finish the 1st . Kalgoorlie has the wind in the 2nd and took advantage putting another 5 goals on the board. Esperance fought hard in the second half but it was Kalgoorlie showing their clean skills who ran away in the second half.
Subi Talent manager said "We are gifted to have a strong regional zone with committed volunteers, families and players who make the effort to get to these sorts of games or travel to Perth when needed. The talent was on full display with a number of boys showing some really good signs of football to come."
Subiaco currently have 25 players across the senior mens and colts lists who have come through this pathway from Kalgoorlie & Esperance and with the quality of this game, there will be more to join them in the future.
