2025 Men's Leadership Group

The Men’s Leadership Group for Subiaco’s 2025 season has been locked in, with three familiar faces returning to their positions and one new addition. Greg Clark returns as Club Captain, alongside vice-captains Luke Foley and Ryan Borchet, with Taj Schofield being added to the fold.
“Taj is one of the most professional players running around in the WAFL,” Greg says of his fellow leader and teammate. “He holds himself to such a high standard in terms of preparation, fundamentals, training and game knowledge that others just naturally follow his lead. He’s really grown into owning the direction of the playing group and it’s no surprise he got voted into a leadership role.”
“I’m super excited to officially be added into the leadership group this year,” Taj elaborates. “Having had a bit of a taste throughout the middle of last year and really enjoying it, it was something that I wanted to be a part of going into this season. Leadership is something I feel I have always had, but to have the backing from my teammates and coaches gives me great confidence.”
Ryan and Luke have also well and truly earned their place, Greg is firm to establish.
“Ryan is the pillar of stability in the playing group; he’s been a key member of the club for the past decade. His love for his mates means he holds the group to a really high standard, while also being a great mentor and teacher to the young group. This pre-season we’ve also seen Luke’s true leadership start to come through. He’s the first on the track and the last to leave, and although he isn’t the most vocal team member, when he does speak his words carry weight and everyone truly respects his input.”
The weight of the role is not lost on either Greg or Taj. Leading the squad isn’t just about pep talks in the clubrooms or firing up the boys in huddles.
“There are a few key responsibilities that the leadership group has,” Greg explains.
“Firstly, we set the tone for the club's culture and standards. It’s important that we model the behaviours, values and work ethic expected from all players, and then hold the group accountable to these standards.”
“Secondly, we act as the communication bridge between the coaches and the playing group. It’s vital that we relay the messaging from the coaches to ensure everyone is on the same page, and to also relay feedback from the playing group to the coaches.”
“Lastly, it is really important that we play a role in mentoring and guiding our teammates to ensure they feel supported and are maximising their potential.”
With the leadership set in stone, Subi is ready and raring to take on 2025. Subiaco will play their first pre-season match against South Fremantle on Saturday morning at Fremantle Community Bank Oval, the first of three pre-season matches before the 2025 Sullivan Logistics WAFL season begins proper.
